Rhinoplasty Cost in Ohio: What Patients Should Know

Rhinoplasty Cost in Ohio: What Patients Should Know

As previously discussed, patients may seek rhinoplasty surgery for aesthetic and/or functional reasons nd often ask, how much does rhinoplasty cost? In general, there are three main scenarios:

  • Cosmetic-only rhinoplasty, where the focus surgery is on addressing aesthetic concerns about the nose
  • Functional-only rhinoplasty, where the focus of surgery is on addressing difficulty breathing through the nose
  • Rhinoplasty with both cosmetic and functional components

Please note that the scenarios below do not include any additional costs, including, but not limited to, prescription medications and over-the-counter medications.

Cosmetic-Only Surgery Expenses: What’s Included in the Cost of Rhinoplasty

A surgical quote is provided before surgery when a rhinoplasty is entirely for cosmetic purposes. The charges include:

  • Surgeon’s fee
  • Anesthesia fee
  • Facility fee

The anesthesia fee and facility fee can differ depending on the location of the surgery (e.g. hospital versus office-based surgery suite). Payment for the procedure is made before surgery. Additional details are available for review in the quote.

Functional-Only Surgery Expenses and Insurance Coverage

Rhinoplasty for improvement in nasal breathing may or may not be covered by a patient’s health insurance plan, depending on multiple factors. One example of a scenario where a health insurer may not cover a functional rhinoplasty is if the initial procedure performed on the nose that led to the difficulty breathing was itself performed for cosmetic purposes. If the patient’s health insurance does cover this procedure, the surgeon, facility, and anesthesia group usually each bill the health insurance company directly. The total out-of-pocket costs depend on the details of the insurance coverage and could vary depending on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, the patient’s deductible. The process may also differ if the surgeon, facility, and/or anesthesia group are considered out-of-network by the patient’s health insurer. For general context on typical fees and coverage, see overviews from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Combined Cosmetic and Functional Procedure Is a Hybrid

Both scenarios above apply when the procedure involves both a cosmetic and functional component. First, the patient would be presented with a quote for the cosmetic component of the procedure. And, if the surgeon, anesthesia group, and facility are considered in-network by the patient’s health insurer, the respective individuals generally bill the patient’s health insurer directly, with the same limits as listed above. This is not an uncommon scenario that can influence the overall cost of rhinoplasty in Ohio, depending on plan details and case complexity.
