When Should I Consider Undergoing Facial Plastic Surgery Procedures Prior to a Wedding?

There are many wonderful options for facial rejuvenation prior to a wedding. And whether you are the bride, groom or, more commonly, the mother or father of the bride or groom, it is important to know what procedures are commonly sought and how long before such an event one should consider undergoing these procedures. Seek a fellowship-trained facial plastic surgeon to help determine whether any of these procedures may be able to address your concerns and desires.

Six Months to One Year Prior to the Wedding Day

The extended deep plane facelift and neck lift are frequently considered prior to a wedding, usually from the mother or father of the bride or groom. These procedures are among the most effective at restoring some of the youthful features of the face and neck. It is recommended to allow at least six months but preferably twelve months prior to the wedding to the wedding date to undergo these procedures to allow enough time to heal.

Three to Six Months Prior to the Wedding Day

Many individuals desire a refresh of their eyes prior to a wedding. They are concerned about redundant upper eyelid skin, drooping eyebrows, and lower eyelid bags. They would like their eyes to appear more “open” and youthful. The lateral temporal brow lift can address eyebrow drooping and eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) can address redundant upper eyelid skin and lower eyelid bags. All three procedures complement each other. It is recommended to allow at least three months but preferably six months prior to the wedding date to undergo a lateral temporal brow lift and/or eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).

Like eyebrow and eyelid surgery, allow at least three months but preferably six months prior to the wedding date to undergo laser resurfacing of the face. Laser resurfacing can treat wrinkles, age spots, and sunspots as well as mismatched and uneven skin texture. It is very important to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun for the first three months after the procedure, which is often difficult on the wedding day.

Two to Four Weeks Prior to the Wedding Day

Botox© is one of the most common procedures requested by the wedding party. It is recommended to allow at least two weeks prior the event for the effects of the treatment to reach their maximal effect. It is preferable to receive this treatment at least four weeks prior to the wedding in case additional Botox© needs to be added to achieve an ideal result.

Like Botox©, allow at least two weeks but preferably four weeks prior to the wedding date to have hyaluronic acid filler placed.

The Above Time Frames are Recommendations and Not Guarantees of Results

The above time frames listed are a best approximation of the anticipated recovery from each procedure. Every patient is different and may heal at a different rate. Therefore, the above time frames listed do not guarantee full recovery prior to the wedding day.

Trust Your Face to a Facial Plastic Surgeon

It is important to seek a fellowship-trained specialist in plastic surgery of the face and neck when you have concerns about age-related changes in the face and/or neck.
